Calculator- A device used for calculating.
1) When was the technology developed?
-The first calculators were abacuses, they were invented in 1622 by William Oughtred. The first automatic calculators were built by William Schickard in 1623, called the “Calculating Clock.”
2) Where would you find this technology?
-In most developed countries, students used calculators for schoolwork. Calculators are used in any educations, such as schools, universities, etc. You would mostly find this technology in classrooms, offices, stores/shops, Hospitals, homes.
3) Do you personally own a device with this technology?
-Yes, I own a calculator. I have a handphone which also has a calculator in it for used to calculate numbers. The calculator at home is used for calculating hard math problems.
4) What are the main uses for this technology?
- The main uses for this technology is to calculate huge numbers easier. There are many types of calculator, such as: abacus (constructed as a wooden frame with beads sliding on wired), automatic calculator, electronic calculator, scientific calculator. They are used for all mathematical functions.
5) Are there other uses that you can think of?
- The advanced electronic calucators/scientific calculators can display graphs, most calculators of this type can print numbers up to 10 digits or decimal places in full on the screen. Graphing calculators have focus on graph.
6) Do you feel this technology will still be used in 10 years from now or be replaced with something better?
-I think it will still be used in 10 years from now because calculators are very useful in life, life is going to be hard without calculators, in buying and selling or giving a discount for the buyers in store, calculators will be needed definitely to count how much it will cost for the new prices. But maybe it will be replaced with something better too, maybe in the future, calculators might have games.
